Thanks for this review. I've never read this book, but I have read things about it that I wasn't sure about. However, after reading your review, I agree that we can read a story simply because it's a good story. If we bear in mind the time in which it was written (where attitudes and beliefs were so different from those of today), it may be a little unpalatable sometimes. But that doesn't take away the writing skills and storytelling ability. It doesn't mean we can't enjoy it. I really don't have tie for this cancel culture, where we are only supposed to read/watch/listen to things that follow the party line. Surely, we can actually learn from reading books that were written in a different time or place. I really don't like books being banned. That's just wrong.
