Goals: Mixing it up (2024.02.05)
by Tobber Author IconMail Icon
Since I'm going on paternity leave in a couple of days and have no idea how that will affect my writing time, and since I have a bunch of short story project with pretty tight deadlines, I am going to do things a bit differently this week. Instead of having a list of prioritized goal, all of which I ideally want to achieve, I will have a longer list of, primarily, short story writing goals

I know I won't reach all of my listed goals this way, at least not this week, but hopefully it will help me keep focus and get started on several of the goals and reach all the deadlines.

Writing goals (no particular order)
*Box* Finish Danish Horror Story First Draft: This is one of the few stories I'm working to some degree or other that does have deadline, yet it's the one I'm drafting. I should have finished it last week but got sick. So, hopefully, the first draft will be done in a few days.

*Box* Edit Danish SF Story: This one has a firm deadline March 1st. I do have a first draft ready, but it needs a fair deal of editing, with at least one scene to be added. There are no first priorities as such for me this week, but if there were, this would probably the one.

*Box* Braintorm and Outline for The Lodestar Contest: I really want to participate in The Lodestart Contest this year, and I do have a fraction of an idea for a story. The deadline for submissions is February 28th, though, which clashes with a lot of other things on my list.

*Box* Brainstorm and Outline Danish Story About The Culture Consuming Human: I started writing my horror story for this website/magazine, only realizing in the middle of writing the story that there was a prompt I did not follow at all *FacePalm*. So, yeah, there's the opportunity for another story. Only, I don't have any ideas, and, once again, the deadline is March 1st. This the one I'm most likely to miss out on.

*Box* Write a Story for Stupefying Stories: I got a story published over at Stupefying Stories through their Pete Wood challenge last month. They have another competition running with, you guessed it, deadline March 1st. The prompt is quite elaborate, but the word count limit is 175 words, so I should really be able to get this done within the deadline.

*Box* Brainstorm/Write Flash Fiction Idea: I used to write and read a lot of Flash Fiction, but aside from the aforementioned Pete Wood challenge, I've put that on the back burner. But the other day an idea started to form in my head for what might well be a 1K word story about breastfeeding a dragon. There's no deadline on this one, but again, it's a very short story and one that is pushing itself forward from the back of my mind, so I mind end up writing this one even if it means missing out on some of the deadlines above.

Reading goals
*Box* Read and Review for WYRM: Fairly self-explanatory. I really need to start reviewing for the WYRM group here on WdC again.

*Box* Be Actice on the Codex Forum: Ideally, I would target reviewing a story on the forum, but if anything is lowest on my to-do list for the week, this is probably it (once again). So, yeah, I should be active in some way, comment, participate in short story contests.
