Rach's Reading Club

Well, there are animals stories that aren't tearjerkers. I considered one about how ants work together. I'm guessing that one wouldn't really pull at any heartstrings. But as you may (or may not) remember, I'm trying to do 2 challenges at once, so that one got pushed aside in favor of one with a different publication date.

OOOO! I just came up with an idea! When we get published, you know, because we're both almost there with a bunch of books and will totally definitely publish a lot of high quality books because that's how we are... Anyway, PRETEND we're going to publish a bunch of books. Though I have no doubt they'll be at least pretty good quality. Anyway, we could run our own book challenges! I mean like challenges to read our own books. And winners could get signed copies or become beta readers, if they want or get pre-release copies (whatever those are called, I forget or even a private interview or phone call or something with us.

Maybe everyone who completed it could get an early copy of our next book, if we have a bunch of participants. Then we could draw from that group for folks who get other goodies like a call from us or signed copies or whatever. The challenge could include a number of things. When we have like 30 books published (I'm almost there, you know, if you drop the 0...and the 3... ), they could choose based on different things, sort of like we do now. But we could also add things like for them to read one of our books, then to read a book by an author with the same initials as us or that they think has a similar style as us. (That would be SUPER helpful to me in the beginning, not after 30 books, though because by then, I assume I'll already know. lol But I'm told that publishers often want to know whose style you are like or what book(s) are similar to what you just wrote. I don't know. You tell me. )

Anyway, they could write Book Club Questions for each book they read. (I want to have book club questions at the end of mine, anyway. ) I don't know what those are, exactly, but I hear some books have them, so I need to research them before I get that far. So, yeah, I still have another couple of decades before that will be a real concern. Anyway, they could do a piece of art of any sort (drawing, poem, etc.) about or from the perspective of any character or scene. We could even host them on our site and then get the participants to get folks to vote. We could choose a winner, then also have a viewer's choice...which would basically be a popularity contest about who can get the most friends to vote. lol But hey, that would bring more eyes to our books/website. And depending on the setup, it could really build our email list, too. Of course, we'd need an email list and fair number of readers before we did this, anyway...not to mention, several published books. There's a flaw in every plan. Oh, we could also run a contest for new cover art for the 10th Anniversary editions of our books.

Yep, I'm a genius. You're welcome! Though I admit that sometimes I think my genius is wasted on me. I could be so successful if I actually put any of my plans into action.

Okay, that's enough of paying attention to ideas I'll never actually do. I should get back to real life. Maybe you can file this book away for something to read in the future. It really is a good book. But also, I know how losing a pet can be heartbreaking.
