Yes, the VA is SUPPOSED to cover everything I need, but they cover everything THEY think I need--different. The biggest one is my pregnenolone. They don't even have a way to measure my blood levels (so I pay for outside blood tests as well). They definitely don't agree with giving it to me, despite that's what I need to maintain my stability. I know people understand the importance of taking thyroid meds. But to compare, I get way worse way faster without my pregnenolone. Thyroid meds take a while to get all the way out of your system and for you to start having physical symptoms like being cold and depressed. I can get that way within days of not taking pregnenolone--well, not cold, but definitely depressed.
In fact, the stuff my TBI doc does is so specialized, when I tell my other docs about pregnenolone, they usually ask what that is--uh, a brain chemical imperative to our daily function. You will literally want to die if you don't have enough.
