I'd personally not use "alcoholic". Alcoholism is debilitating, and, seriously, an alcoholic would struggle to do anything that would be this intense. Alcoholism is a disease, not something that can be turned off when the story needs it. Yes, I have not seen many good portrayals of alcoholism in modern media. Even high-functioning alcoholics struggle. Sorry, I have worked with an alcoholic friend for years and it is like pulling teeth. I would use "alcohol-dependent", "heavy-drinking", "self-medicating", or something along those lines. Pedantic, I know, but... well, sorry.
Apart from that - great outline. It all makes sense. And Christmas time meaning everythiong is shut down is perfedct for upping the tension.
