Starting a story sometimes means being open to moving things around. Start wherever it wants to start no matter what. If you find yourself in the middle, for example, that's okay. The purpose is to start something somewhere. Be prepared to change word order, sentence order, or whatever will make a positive difference. According to what I have read about writing, the first draft is getting the story written so the ideas are not lost. Editing is where a lot of rearranging and deleting happens. Just write and capture the ideas that best fit and keep going. The story will take care of itself.
