Or maybe it's a gritty thriller about an ex-mafiosi ratting out his superiors and running away from the assassins sent out to kill him? The twist being that the rat did so out of greed and jealousy, making him a terrible protagonist. The double twist being that he did the right thing nonetheless, because nobody in that movie is good. And then there's more and more twists that show the whole thing's a complete clusterbollocks, and everyone happens to be a (figurative) rat, making the protagonist actually sympathetic.
Though - I thought that Rat Race was an attempt to at least approximate the story to the real world, wasn't it?
