In Wonderland Sixteen-year-old Alice Kagami's singing and dancing in her school's talent show is noticed by the father of her classmate. The man—a music producer, ex-musician, and owner of a small record label—is very impressed and approaches Alice with an offer: girl groups from places like South Korea and Japan are the "in" thing and he wants to make an American version of it. It could be the kind of thing that really takes his company to the next level and he believes Alice could be a star. Alice has her own ambition and agrees, becoming the centerpiece of the group Wonderland. The series would be a teen drama with the dual goal of having Wonderland double as an actual musical group i.e. something like Hannah Montana or other similar shows but far less silly. Something marketed for the teen and young adult crowd instead of the pre-teen crowd and likely running on a streaming service like Netflix or Disney+. Preliminary Cast - Note as the show is in pre-production not all roles have been decided. Notably the roles of the manager and Alice's best friend. Alice Kagami (played by Erin Nakayama) - A 16-year-old Japanese-American girl with a talent for singing and dancing who becomes the centerpiece of Patrick Easton's girl group Wonderland. She's spirited and approaches her role seriously. Her father, in his younger days, was an actor, singer, and entertainer in Japan prior to moving to the United States and is reluctant about her entering the entertainment field. Alice, who loves her father, wants to have a way to connect with him. Her actress, though born in the United States, lived in Japan and performed as a singer for a few years before moving back so the show and group are an attempt to turn her into a marketable American star as she's seen to already be experienced. Connie Liu (played by Jessica Chao) - A member of Wonderland. She is talented and strongly driven and thus has something of a professional rivalry with Alice. She recognizes Alice as talented but feels that because of her father she's given an advantage and so jealousy can't help but creep in at times. Jacqueline Gates (played by Sara Okoye) - A member of Wonderland. The group's strongest dancer and a good singer as well. 21-years-old and thus older than the other members, she's been trying to make it in the music industry for a while and was already signed to Patrick's label. Due to this, she was added to be a moderating influence on and mentor for the other girls. She's competent and professional though keeps secret her very personal and unprofessional romantic attraction to Patrick. Ryleigh Layne (played by Rachelle Sellers) - The fourth member of Wonderland and unlike the others, a total neophyte. She's the most optimistic and bright-eyed member of the group and so tries to play the role of peacemaker if tempers begin to flare. She has her own dedicated group of fans who like her because she's not the best at singing and dancing yet and see her as an underdog. Rose McKinney (currently not cast) - Alice's quirky and somewhat eccentric best friend. She's not a member of the group though she has artistic talent and uses it to help design everything from promotional images to costumes. Angela Easton (played by Alma Westhof) - One of the most popular girls at Alice's school and a queen bee par excellence, she initially develops a hostile attitude towards Alice due to Alice catching the attention the handsome Jake Rowan who she herself has had her eye on. Her evolving relationship with Alice will be an important part of the series as she's also Patrick's daughter. Jake Rowan (played by Ryan Thayer) - An athlete who's as popular for his genial nature as he is his athletic prowess, he's the object of Angela Easton's affection but his own attention is eventually caught by Alice which begins to put her in an awkward position. Patrick Easton (currently not cast) - A music producer and the owner of a small record label, he's also an ex-musician. He discovered Alice at talent show for his daughter's school and took her under his wing as part of a new project he was starting. He's a good natured and well meaning guy but can some times get in over his head. |
