With Indiana Jones back in movie theaters, I decided to read a novel about the character from 1991.
Indiana Jones and the Peril at Delphi is a prequal written by Robert MacGregor. It takes place when Indy was a young graduate student in the Roaring 20's. It revolves around Indy ttraveling to Greece and joining an expedition at Delphi, which,l you may know, was the home of the mysterious oracle who gave advice to the Greeks in Ancient times. The expedition is led by an attractive Greek woman who, of course, Indy sleeps with. Moreover she may or may not be the heir to the oracle.
The plot is a bit more involved than anything which you would see in a movie. In addition to the above characters, it includes a secret society of locals who want to protect the area, a political coup against the King of Greece, and a young Greek boy with a fascination for America who becomes Indy's sidekick.
It's also a little bit more of a period piece then the movies focusing on things like jazz and the lives of University students at the time.
In general, this a good read and I believe Mcgregor followed it up with a few more novels.
