It was not only an interesting but even more an enlightening read. While reading, also the second book, I knew immediately which changes to make to smooth out the excess "artistic license".
Concerning UK-procedure:
– Stephen Wade / Stuart Gibbon: A straightforward guide to the Crime writer's Handbook (focuses on murder, its investigation and the Criminal Justice system)
– Clive Harfield: Blackstone's Police Operational Handbook – Practice and Procedure (comprehensive, but seems more academic... but that makes it more realistic)
– Michael O'Byrne: The Crime Writer's Guide to Police Practice and Procedure (2nd Ed.)
– Kate Bendelow: The Real CSI (she's a CSI from Manchester)
Okay, I'll stop now. I'm sure you'll find some more when you investigate further.
I must admit that I ditched them all (except Kate). It was not because these books weren't good, but because my stories are set in the US, it made no sense to me to reads books on UK-procedures.
