"The Laws of Attraction" by Mary Connealy https://www.amazon.com/Laws-Attraction-Wyoming-Sunrise/dp/0764241141/ref=tmm_pap... I tried to do a Wdc review but it didn't work. I did see that Kittee was able to do one though. So I guess it's worth trying? ![]() ![]() This is an inspirational, Christian historic romance with action and comedy. It was a great read for me because it fit in with my beliefs, yet had lots of action, some humor and an interesting main romance. The "war" aspect was a wild west type. A ruthless gang preyed on stagecoaches and the heroine, in the course of the book, became the second female justice of the peace in the USA (fictional of course, but there was a real one who was first) and had to involve the Calvary and other military units to help guard the stagecoaches. While she waited for them, she and the local sheriff (not the hero, surprise! ![]() Anyway, the hero is someone who helps with the guarding and between her regular job (the justice of the peace was an addition to it, even though the jobs were unrelated) of being the area's seamstress and chap-maker (something she hated but that was very profitable) and all of the action involving the gang, it was interesting to me. The humor part was that what she loved most was making dresses and almost no one hired her for that. So the hero having three daughters (he was a widow) with only boy clothes delighted her. She could make all those lovely feminine things the girls needed. The book actually opened with this and if you read the first book first (which I recommend), you were already familiar with her great desire to make pretty things and hatred of making chaps. So it started fun, got serious and scary, with lots of ups and downs until the happy ending. There will be a third book in the series and I'm looking forward to reading it. I imagine it will feature the first (a blacksmith!) and second heroine's other female friend, who owns and manages her own ranch. So for literary critics, it's not the most original or best-written book. But I was entertained and felt all the emotions. I could really relate to Nell. I have 100% nephews. I really would love to buy cute girly things for a niece! Not that I don't love my nephews but ... it would be nice to have some girls in the next generation. I'll have to wait until the boys grow up and get married though, because my brothers don't seem to be eager to have more children just to give me a niece. (haha!) And I usually include this part in WDC reviews so here you go: "Mary Connealy (maryconnealy.com) writes "romantic comedies with cowboys" and is celebrated for her fun, zany, action-packed style. She has sold more than 1.5 million books and is the author of the popular series Wyoming Sunrise, The Lumber Baron's Daughters, Brothers in Arms, Brides of Hope Mountain, High Sierra Sweethearts, The Kincaid Brides, Trouble in Texas, Lassoed in Texas, Sophie's Daughters, and many other books. Mary lives on a ranch in eastern Nebraska with her very own romantic cowboy hero." from the Amazon link above. |
