Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: February--Historical Fiction Book 1
Thanks. It's fine. It still fits in another category. It's just my own OCD that insisted on doing the same category to finish up. *Wink*

Speaking of categories, I have some suggestions for you, in case you are looking for options for next year:
- Best Sellers -- NY Times, USA Today, etc.
- Goodreads Choice Award winners (or maybe any informal awards like that)
- Anything recommended by the Library Journal website or maybe anything listed on their Best Selling list https://www.libraryjournal.com/section/reviews/booklists/bestsellers
- Anything recommended by a friend or family member
- To 10 selling book in any category on Amazon books (so This Tender Land would have qualified under Native American Fiction)
- Duologies (is that what they're called--basically non-trilogies but series with only 2 books) or you could just require 2 books by the same author or 2 books in a series, even if the series is longer
- Recommended by someone on WdC or maybe found listed on one of the threads when WdC asks "What are you reading?"
- Recommended by a book blogger
- Written by a foreign writer (so for British members, this could be an American writer and vice versa)
- You could have 6 different categories, one for reading a writer from each of the 6 populated continents...or maybe even all 7, but the 7th would likely need to include books about Antarctica, not just books written by people from there, I would imagine. lol
- Children's chapter book (The Tale of Despereaux that I recently reviewed would have worked for that)
- Young Adult
- Death, dying, or the afterlife
- Tear jerkers
- Banned books--either banned at one time and not now or banned from school libraries or in certain countries
- Poetry book--I wouldn't be excited about that one, but it's still a valid one, IMO
- Short stories book
- Updated or retelling of a classic, fairytale, etc. like West Side Story is basically an updated Romeo and Juliet and Beauty is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast
- Written during NaNo--there are several lists, but here's one https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/1952-33-novels-written-during-nanowrimo
- About writing--we're supposed to be writers, after all (No, don't look to see when the last time I wrote something was--none of your business *Rolling* *Blush* *FacePalm* It's definitely good that actively writing isn't a requirement for being a Mod *RollEyes*)
- Published by someone on WdC (though that can be a bit scary if the book isn't any good and they give it a bad rating)
- An animal is the main character (again, The Tale of Despereaux would have fit that)
- Magic--things like Harry Potter, but could also be a nonfiction book or maybe even something like a book about Harry Houdini
- Surprise endings...of course, how do you find your book without reading about the spoiler? lol Maybe we have to rely on your suggestions. *Wink*
- About or set during a holiday--maybe can include birthdays and anniversaries
- Death and dying--can include a character dying of a long illness or non-fiction about the process or how to get over it or whatever
- Books written by (or maybe include written about) artificial intelligence such as this list https://lifearchitect.ai/books-by-ai/
- Books written in 2nd person (when looking for books written during NaNo, I found the AI and 2nd person options also popped up, giving me the idea)
- In the US, we have months celebrating things like Black History Month, Asian Pacific History Month, etc. so you could have us read books relating to those types of things or by those types of authors during those months
- Books in a genre you've never read or haven't read much of before
- Plays
- Written by or about a celebrity
- Written in verse (also found that when looking for the list of NaNo novels)
- Any of the punk books such as steampunk, rockpunk, cyberpunk, solarpunk, etc.
- About a disease, illness, or disability or with a main character that has one--can include nonfiction like Helen Keller's autobiography
- Books set during different time periods like the Dark Ages, Renaissance, Stone Age, or just anything set in a time before the 1900's but you can pick one or two time periods we have to read from
- Books with 1 word titles (Dracula, It, Beloved, Persuasion)
- Books by an author whose name is the same as ours--can be first, middle, or last name and spellings can be different
- Books with funny titles or a play on words (Still Stripping After 25 Years--it's a quilting book on how to make strip quilts lol, Knitting with Dog Hair, How to Raise Your IQ by Eating Gifted Children, Everything I Know About Women I Learned from my Tractor)
- Starring an anti-hero
- Books that were made into movies or TV shows
- Something set in your city, state, province, region, etc. (Though if you opt for this one, probably don't do the one with our name in the author's name as some people are squirrely about personal info. *Wink*)
- Something set in a place you've never been, but would like to go
- Something set in a place you've visited--city, state, country, etc.
- Something in your library you've been meaning to read, but haven't gotten to yet
