"Jesus Today," Hardcover, with Full Scriptures: Experience Hope Through His Presence (a 150-Day Devotional) Hardcover – October 8, 2012 by Sarah Young (Author) This is a most excellent, comforting, uplifting, hope-filled set of devotionals. On my hardest days this year, it seemed to have just the perfect writings to encourage me. I greatly prefer having the Bible verses in the book and appreciated that she now offers this format (her original book, which I think was "Jesus Calling," just had the references, so readers had to look up the verses, but I suspect most just didn't and missed out on the power of God's Word (which is another way of saying the Holy Bible / Bible). Her original book also had 365 entries. I love them both. This one was just right for me at this time. She was going through a hard time when she wrote it and it is filled with everything she needed and received from the Lord through His Word as she did. I even enjoyed her introduction when she shared about this time in her life (most often, I just like folks to get straight to the devotionals, so this was different for me, to enjoy the introduction so much). There were many pages I wanted to share with friends, so found myself emailing them quotes from the book and recommending it. I made so many highlights that it's a good thing I own the book. I think I might make it a yearly read. I've loved every one of Sarah Young's books that I've read so far, but I think this is my favorite. As I was typing this, I remembered that, somewhere, I have a hard copy of her Jesus Calling for Easter book and this would be a great time to read it. So that will probably be my next devotional. I recommend all of her books. They are very comforting. She writes them from the perspective that it's actually the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, talking to you as you read it, and bases it on the Holy Bible. I just finished it this morning, and even though I've not reviewed some other books that I've read yet, I wanted to do this review now because I will start a different devotional tomorrow or even today. I generally have at least two devotionals going. Three is most common. One for morning, one for random times during the day, and one for evening. |
