"Sunny Side Up (Aloha Chicken Series)" by Josie Avari

This is book six in the Aloha Chicken Series. I read the first five books in January and kind of wish I'd waited so I could review them for this challenge. It's a fun series. Ironically, this is the book I've liked the least so far but it was still a good read. There had to be a LOT of suspended belief and I missed the romantic elements and the chicken farm, but Saffron (the heroine) found a way to bring her love of chickens and her favorite chicken raising book even had a key part in this story.

Unlike the other stories, which were set on land in Hawaii, this one was set mostly on a retired military battleship. The naval elements were especially interesting to me as a veteran. I liked that there were veterans featured in the story too.

This mystery centered around finding exquisite enameled eggs. The characters were varied and interesting to me Saffron finally got to know her father and there were some twists and turns in their relationship. So rather than being a mystery + romance, as most of the previous books, this was more of a mystery + family drama. Plus mafia danger and political intrigue and a pack of school children and teacher politics. I still plan on reading the whole series, though I hope the romance comes back. I love Saffron's special color vision, love for her chickens, and all the Hawaiian cultural things I'm learning in the series.

I wanted to do an official WDC review but it wouldn't take any of the ASINs (as with the last two books). Hopefully that'll get fixed soon.
