If you're having a hard time figuring out your theme, I think one thing the article asked is really helpful: why do you want to tell your story? What's the motivation behind your story? What's the meaning?
Do you have an easy time with themes? What do you come up with first, plot or theme? I always come up with the plot first, and figure out theme later.
