Remember to send your editor on a nice long vacation. When the first draft is finished/after NaNo, then the editor is no longer on vacation. NaNo taught me to write and get the ideas and details of my stories down so that nothing is lost. Even if some of your ideas don't fit exactly, make a new chapter and get them written. Chapters allow you to move from one part of a story to the other as ideas, characters, and other stuff writes your story. Enjou the process. Write with might for reader's delight. You can write 50K, go for it!
