I've listened to a few Audible books where a player gets sucked into a game. I'm thinking of a game where the game is boring and a non-player character (NPC) overhears some real players talking about the rumor that the game is going to be shut down because of people dropping out because the game is boring and now losing money. The NPCs became sentient when a bored programmer was playing around with some AI code. Since the game literally is this character's whole world, he discovers he can do more than he was originally programmed for and decides to make the game more interesting, tries to enlist his friends, who haven't yet discovered they have their own autonomy, and they work to make the game more exciting so they can build playership again and save their world.
What do you think? I realize you are required to say you like the idea. But you can share any real thoughts you might have as well. And if you have any ideas for the story... I just decided to switch from my trilogy this morning.
