The author said one of the problems was the glamour around the mafia so it was sometimes hard to get juries to understand that what they think the mafia is isn't the real mafia, especially with the defense attorney doing their job well. But even today, just in NYC, they estimate there are about 30 mob hits EVERY YEAR! YIKES!

In one of the descriptions (why I said the book was XGC), they described burying a guy alive, even as he was trying to get out of the hole. Eek! And they PURPOSELY targeted poor and minority neighborhoods for drug sales to get them hooked. Wow! It was fascinating, but also very disturbing!

If you have Audible, I vote you listen to it. Yeah, no way would I have been able to read this book, even pre-TBI. Well, maybe if I'd started it because it was just amazing, but I wouldn't have started it if I didn't know how great it was. Even with 7-8 hours left, I was already dreading the end, knowing it was coming because the book was just THAT GOOD!
