"Heroic Hearts" by Jim Butcher, Patrica Briggs, Charlaine Harris, Kerrie L. Hughes and more Amazon isn't letting me do a WDC review, so here's an informal one. I enjoyed this collection of heroic short stories. Most of the stories were good and a couple were even great, in my opinion. Though there were a couple I just couldn't get into. That's normal for me for anthologies though. It's probably hard to gather a group of similarly-themed yet different enough to stay interesting stories for such a collection. My favorite story in this book was Patricia Brigg's story. It helps that it built on a series that I follow, I'm sure, as I was already invested in the hero's character. I really liked the heroine too, even though she was a new introduction. I don't think I'd read Kerrie L. Hughes before and I was pleasantly surprised with her altruistic troll story. I loved the hero theme throughout. I think there's at least one story for everyone in this book, though I doubt every story would appeal to every reader. I'm glad I borrowed it from the library. ![]() I already follow Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs on Amazon and was originally notified of the book because I follow Ms. Harris. Surprisingly I didn't get any notifications regarding Ms. Briggs being part of the book. This makes me want to go to Briggs' page after this to see if I'm missing anything else by her.
