You do need to post the badge in your message. The badge ID can be found in your '[CONFIRMATION] Merit Badge given! ' email. This contains a picture of the merit badge. If you click on it it opens a window with details of what you sent. Near the bottom, just below the time and date info, is the badge ID.
To quote this you need to type: {badge:xxxxxx} where xxxxxx is the badge ID number, no # required.
