Thanks for this review. I read this book (and the following two books) twenty-plus years ago. I remember being shocked by the abuse and torture this child experienced. I must have been early 20s when I read them, and they were unlike anything I'd read before. They had such an impact on me that I still remember them today. As you said, they weren't the most polished, well-written books. But, I think, that adds to their authenticity.
