"The Hunter's Lessons, Part 3" brings out a definite first for me, and one I hope I nailed - an action scene. Now, it's not as if I hadn't done action scenes in the stuff I've written, but this is the first time I write an action scene and, well, publish it. (For a given definition of "published", that is.) This chapter was a bit complicated, since it had to deal with a ton of stuff - Mireya, her quarry, and her unlikely assistant. As I mentioned earlier, this chapter makes reference to "Where the Wild Things Are, Part 1" and the two subsequent, as it faces the same quarry - an ettin. I took this chapter as reference, mostly to have long-time readers find a comparison point between the events - it's not the same for an associate to fight a cryptid as it does for a full-fledged Stellae, and as you can see, it required not just skill but actual luck. Still: do you feel this makes Mireya enough of a badass on her own? There's a reason why I called this arc "the Hunter's Lessons" - this is one of her big defining aspects, and her specialty as an associate. (As for why she got into this - again, the third arc should clear a lot of things.) Also: don't want you to reveal the spoiler, but if it's not already clear, you should know who's standing there. I definitely want to show how it got to that point, in fact. |
