Where all you have to do is read books to receive awesome prizes. |
I really didn’t enjoy this book. It is a number of unconnected short stories with the theme of Florida running through them in different ways. I can’t pick out one as being my favourite because I just can’t say that about any of them. Part of this is my fault because I clearly don’t enjoy literary fiction, and I should stop trying to ‘get’ it. I chose to read this because one of the stated genres is fantasy. If not for that, I would have given up pretty quickly. I found it pretentious, if I’m honest. Now, I’m giving this two stars instead of the one I was tempted to give. That is because I can appreciate that the author is talented at descriptive writing. She writes beautiful metaphors and imagery. I’m not saying she can’t write. But, oh my word, I was bored. There was no real plots, and the characters of each story seemed to have identical personalities and characteristics. If you like action, if you like a story, if you like characters, maybe don’t read this. If, on the other hand, you like to read a series of long paragraphs where nothing actually happens, then give it a go. |
