I am far from a Sydney expert, but, in the way I've written her, the answer is a complicated 'yes and no'. (Spoilers, obviously). Yes, the only reason Sydney is interested in is because of magic, and I 100% believe that she would backstab him in a heartbeat if he decided to abandon it, or she discovered that he wasn't magical (which, of course, he inherently is). She wants to further her Baphomet beliefs and sees the occult as a tool. But! Will is magical. And so Sydney isn't using him, per se, but rather she genuinely has fallen in love with him for that reason and that reason alone. Her plans to include Will, and motivations thereof, are as they present: she wants to be with Will, as Will, as other people, as partners. She adores him. It's not something she needs to convince herself of; she's genuinely in love with him because of it. I can't comment on Katy, but with Niamh the motivation was different: the magic was an allure, but it wasn't why she fell for Will; rather, in that line, it was a little pinch of being thrust together in a crisis, and she fell in love with him as a typical hero story. The magic was fun, and it only heightened that initial tension, but the moment Will misused the magic (in her eyes) and started to drift away from their original crisis, she promptly ditched him. Her motivation was always to use the magic to save someone who was like a sister to her. |
