Check out this link for tons of ideas for your story! https://forums.nanowrimo.org/c/story-development/adoption-society/60 It's the link to NaNo's Adoption Society. That is where people post ideas for others to "adopt." You can adopt unlimited ideas and change them to suit your needs. And unlimited people can adopt the same idea since they will each use it differently, not to mention, most will never publish. There is a thread for practically everything from Adopt a Plot Twist or Adopt a Subplot to Adopt a Tearjerker Scene or Adopt Some Last Words. There are even things for specific needs such as Adopt a Chapter-Naming System or Adopt a Band Name. The key to the Adoption Society threads is to read them with an open mind. Maybe a suggestion talks about a kid's lemonade stand and you don't have kids in your story. But it could prompt the idea of a character taking on a side hustle for extra money such as driving for Lyft or writing online review articles. A suggestion about a spy taking pictures of their target might spawn the idea of a stalker taking pictures of one of your characters. And just because a thread is targeted at fantasy writing doesn't mean you can't find ideas there. A vampire and werewolf falling in love is basically the fantasy version of Romeo and Juliet. Maybe that idea leads you to two competitors in your story falling in love. Read the thread ideas looking for how you can apply it to your story, not with the idea that it's not like what you're writing. I got my entire NaNo project idea from from the Adopt a Title thread. I didn't even have a project in mind yet, but thought I might find inspiration there and I did, ironically by a title I came up with myself when contributing to the thread.
