It should not be a matter of ideology or politics, but rather a matter of philosophy.

The conversation continues to discover morality

It has been three weeks since the first 'installment' of the 1984 debate that was to deal with the morality of the ideologies of socialism versus that of capitalism. Unfortunately, it was as much a disappointment this time as it was previously. For some incomprehensible reason, the socialists have been reluctant to make their case for the morality of the philosophy, which is more than a little disappointing. The capitalists, while a bit more focused, could also have presented a better position, although they did make an attempt and gave some good information and made some points. It would have been in their interests to present a more comprehensive perspective, which would have looked that much more evident in comparison to what the socialist side was willing to offer.

In any case, it was an interesting rhetorical discussion, if not a true debate. There was a good amount of information, if somewhat digressive and evasive at times. I would have so enjoyed delving into the objective of the debate, which was again the morality of the conflicting ideologies. I have been searching for many decades to make more sense out of the socialist ideals. I feel somehow cheated and disrespected that I remain without any fundamental precepts of the philosophy. But, then again, there is always tomorrow.

In any case, I have posted today the second debate, fairly similar to the first one, this time in Washington, D.C., at the George Washington University, presented by their on-campus Objectivist Club. The format is similar as well, although I decided to change the format a bit, thinking that it would lend an immediacy to the comments that were possibly missing in the first attempt.

You can find our new debate here:

The heart dreams of socialism. The mind knows that only capitalism can truly bring peace.

It will also remain available, as will all of my submissions, on the group splash page. If I can coax any of you that read this to compose their own articles or essays, I will post them on the page as well, so future visitors will have a choice of sorts. If you are inclined to just post a comment, hopefully, it will be the genesis of another response from another reader that we can enjoy at some point in the future.

As mentioned with the first debate, the information is voluminous, and you may wish to return multiple times to digest the information. I really hope that you can find the time to engage on some level. It seems obvious that since we are all writers, that this would be a given, but my experience to this point is that there is a certain reluctance to do so, and I hope that will change at some point. There is no real right or wrong with our personal opinions, but it is something of a lost cause to create change in our society if we do not have a conversation, contemplate the information we discover, and attempt comprehension of what we learn.

I am neither looking for an argument nor for confrontation. I desire only a rational discussion between intelligent and insightful readers and writers, my only intent being to learn, and perhaps to teach, but certainly to share provocative perspectives that can only result in growth and enlightenment, if done with respect and consideration, compassion and empathy for all involved. I hope to hear what you have to say. Enjoy your day. If you have any suggestions for future items. please feel free to let us know what that may be, and I will do my best to make it happen.
