Quick additional note, somewhat OT, sparked by Nostrum's observation about things changing:
BoM is old enough that when I started it, it made sense for phone texts to be full of typos. But autocorrect has come a long way since, so that I don't think it's actually authentic for the personal pronoun to be lowercased or for obvious word to be misspelled. At least, my texts more often than not come out with correct spelling and punctuation when I type them.
So now I typically type a text into the Notepad app on my phone--being sloppy and using plausible abbreviations--to get the autocorrected version, which is what I put into the chapters.
(This also leads some unusual results, which I sometimes take advantage of. In "Life Among the Fakes" there's a reference to "Gus" which baffles Will. That was an autocorrect that resulted from me trying to type "guys". I was so amused by it that I used it in the chapter.)
