Daily Flash Fiction Challenge

         “This is perfect!” Gerry said to Barry as he hefted the feet of the limp prince.
         Barry, who was carrying the arms of the limp man nodded in agreement. “We’ll finally be rich, just like we always dreamed!” Plodding along the dirt path, the two rouges finally arrived at their destination and Gerry knocked loudly on the door of a small cottage.
         “Amanda, it’s Gerry,” he called. “We have a surprise for you!”
         The door swung open to reveal a stern woman who wore a perpetual frown. When she caught sight of the two men and what they were carrying, her breath caught, and her scowl deepened.
         “What is that?” She demanded.
         “The crown prince,” Barry said with a grin. “The king will pay handsomely to anyone who returns the prince to him. We’ll be filthy rich! Let us in now so we can get him ready.”
         “You can’t bring that in here,” Amanda hissed. “The king said he would pay anyone who found him alive. That’s a dead body!” To emphasize her point, she put her hand over the prince’s mouth. “He isn’t even breathing!”
         Barry shrugged. “So? I don’t remember anything about him having to be alive.”
         Amanda reeled on him. “If the king finds the body of his dead son connected to us in any way, we’ll be labeled as criminals and blamed for his death. You need to get it out of here!”
         “It’ll be fine!” Barry said, slapping his meaty hand on the prince’s chest.
         Amanda shook her head in frustration and was about to reply when the prince took a sharp intake of breath.
         “Hey, I guess that slap to the chest really did the trick!” Gerry said.
         Amanda’s eyes grew wide, and she opened the door for them. “Take him inside immediately.”
