HONORING OUR VETERANS

I walk along the neighborhood sidewalks
and stare at the flags as they wave
I take in the colors of the red, white, and blue
flapping in and out of the clouds
As I stare, the picture of my grandfather comes to mind
My grandfather, who served in the second World War
who lived his life for his family and country
I never knew him, but I know about him
He was a veteran, he served to keep his people free
Now, he is up in the clouds
watching as other brave men and women
take to the battlefields
of far-off nations
and continue the fight
I never knew him, but if I meet him again
I would tell him thank you
For serving the nation
I love so dearly
