Well - I had to do a quick search for literary devices. I agree that 'the hook' is a good one. I like to write dialogue. I'm not sure if that is a literary device. I guess it could be. But getting the dialogue right in a piece is crucial. You don't want people to read your characters' conversations and think "who in the world talks like that?".
