I do sometimes wonder about Gerssdorff's motivations for sealing his soul inside the Libra for several hundred years with seemingly nothing to do but wait. Only thing I can think of is that he was waiting for a Sulvan to blunder into possession of the book, so he could do his operation on them, as some kind of ultimate test of his life's work. Regardless of his purposes, the man sure is patient.
