As Seuzz has explained, the chapter posted today is the start of a 15-chapter commission. The twist is that Will Prescott never buys the book: instead it is snapped up on 31 August by Jocelyn “JM” Moss, a student at the fancy-ass St Francis Xavier School. The tale so far (11 chapters) has some similarities to Will’s, and if you’ve ever wanted an easy place to start BoM, this probably gives you exactly what you want - a story with a single line, learning as the protagonist does. JM is not Will, though. They both have abilities and privileges the other does not - JM never has to worry about money, for example, but lacks Will’s instant ability to assume a guise (and she can’t read Latin). Her personality is also different, and so are her aims with the book. Why of all people did I pick her? I knew it had to be a girl, to give an opposite gender view of the book. I was also worried about stomping into known personalities as they are harder to write (mostly it is cross referencing). I also did not want someone in a position of power, as the book plays best when used by someone who wants something more. Bit, of course, that doesn’t mean you won’t see familiar faces... or that JM won’t end up wearing them! As always do let me know what works and what does not. |
