"Maria Regina Vásquez y Lorca"?. That sounds a lot like a Spaniard's name, so...I'm assuming she's of Spanish origin? Do know that the lot of Spaniards are usually white Hispanics (yes, I'm using that term intentionally, as they ARE Hispanics, due to language and, well, being from friggin' Spain). Or is it that the mind band automatically puts an "y" (that is, "and") when dealing with a Hispanic or Latin(x)? Same thing with Carlos. Hispanics use both mother and father surnames, but very rarely add something to tie them. It's (First Name) (Second Name) (Third and subsequent names) (Father's surname) (Mother's surname). There may be some rare occasions where that may happen (which often means either a high position OR royalty), but for the most part it's that format. Oh, and: though it's common in the United States, in most Latin American countries, the woman doesn't automatically assume the spouse's surname; i.e., Maria's mother would use her maiden name (Mrs. Lorca) or, very rarely, add her spouse's surname after her own (Mrs. Lorca de Vásquez; in Spanish, it can also be said "señora de Vásquez", but that's usually done in a respectful or mocking manner, depending on the speaker). That said: damn, Maria has a name fit for a telenovela villain's protagonist! |
