David Brin's 'The Postman'. The resulting movie directed and starring Kevin Costner was given only one star by 'Rotten Tomatoes' but I enjoyed its unlikely hero. I looked forward to reading the novel, and finding out those delicious details books offer which the big screen doesn't have time for.
I was surprised to find David Brin very active online comparing current political climate to the ideas posited in this and others of his books I'll soon be exploring.
