"This is all your fault," Emily screamed. We had been walking or hours being cooked by the orange desert sun. It hadn't been my fault that her car broke down. I looked around for anything that might be poised to strike. Things like snakes and scorpions lived in deserts, as far as I knew, and they were certainly dangerous.
He loomed up in the distance. The sun made the dark figure featureless. Was this another dangerous thing I hadn't thought of. I could hear a faint buzz coming from somewhere, maybe from this figure. The only evident was his black hat and cloak. He moved his hand and a tornado materialized across the desert.
I grabbed Emily's hand and we started to run.
