A New Easter Tradition

A New Easter Tradition

“I have an idea I’d like to run by you.” Julie said.

“Sure, what is it?” Megan responded.

“Well, this Easter instead of fixing a big dinner here I thought we could go to the local soup kitchen and serve Easter dinner to the homeless.”

“Oh, I’m not sure about that.”

“What are you concerned about?”

“That’s not the way we do things here.”

“I understand change can be hard, but sometimes it’s good to step outside our comfort zone”

“Why are you always trying to change things? We have a perfect family tradition that doesn’t need to be fixed!”

“Every once in a while it might not hurt you to think of others!”

“I am thinking of others, the kids would hate to do this!”

“I actually think this would be good, not just for the kids but for the whole family.”

“It sounds like a depressing way to spend Easter.”

“I think we all spend too much time focusing inward and we could all benefit from thinking of those less fortunate than us.”

“Hmm, I just don’t know.”

“What are you worried about?”

“I think I might feel uncomfortable around homeless people.”

“Think of how uncomfortable they must feel, living in the streets, not having a place to call home. I can’t imagine how awful it must be not to know when you’ll eat next.”

“You’re right, that must be awful.”

“It’s not just adults who are homeless, many children are homeless too!”

“Oh, I didn’t even think about the children!”

After a brief pause, Megan stated, “When I think of the children, maybe we could change our Easter plans this one time.”

On Easter Sunday, when the two families arrived at the soup kitchen little did they know this was the beginning of a new Easter tradition.
