I'm both the Planning Director and Public Works Director for a small city. So I'm in charge of streets, water, sewer, parks and storm drainage, including a water and sewer plant. On the planning side, I do code enforcement, subdivisions, and all those things. Also, park planning, economic development, and facilities management. Since I'm the only one who's good at it, I write grants (About 12-14mm in 18 years) and administer them. Then minor stuff, until it's an issue, like floodplain management, then it hits and I have to take weeks of my time to rewrite the ordinance. Basically, if it isn't cops or fire, I'm it. Oh, and everyone knows my job better than me. The worst part is every department head has administrative support, but they refuse to get me any help. Why pay a guy $90,0000 a year to make copies and file? Makes no sense... Add to that the mayor slandered me in public, and the City Council did nothing about it, so I have a pending lawsuit. All in all, it wears on me. For Nano, I kept a journal, mostly about work, for all of November. Wish I could put it up, but if anyone got hold of it here, it would be very bad. Kevin The signature quote I use from A Confederacy of Dunces is no accident. I selected it for good reason. When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. ~ Swift |
