Hi and welcome to Writing.Com, gjm412 . Do you know which group you wish to join? The person listed at the top of the group just under the Group name is the group leader.

Some groups have a survey which you can fill out requesting to join. Other groups might require you to email the group leader.

The best thing is to read about the group that interests you and follow their lead.
