Barnaby offered Othello knowledge of Kimberly’s illness, “She experiences random seizures. It is all tied to the nervous system. When those signals are disrupted, all manner of things go wrong. It would be dangerous for her to drive.”

“Nothing in Great Heights Therapy Center can help her?” Othello asked, already knowing the answer.

“Realistically, only anterior dissection of the spinal cord can resolve the issues, but it comes with great risk… and more than half the patients that undergo the procedure suffer painful side effects.”

“Thank you Doctor Barnaby. I will discuss it with her and let you know our decision tomorrow.”

The road that night seemed to stretch on forever. Othello outlined the conversation in his mind as if it were a book. His mind wandered and the book turned into a starry night filled with dreams and roads less travelled. Which road would take them out of the dark of night and grant them another chapter in the book of life? Othello resolved that the book itself is the thing. Neither slept that night as they wrote of the roads they’d seen and the road of hope that they would now follow.
