Genuinely inspired idea vs plagerizing anothers idea
*****please forgive my spelling and grammer. I am writing this on touch screen which is not my greatest strength*****

I have a question:

Here I am very impressed with myself and strutting my peacock feathers because my story is finally starting to have resemblance to a fluid plot. I write down my idea, expand on it, finally have a background for major and minor characters which will develope there personalities and how they interact with each other... I take a break and finally decide to start binge (re)watching a show i haven't seen since 2006...and there it is: my idea. Not word for word but the concept is the same.

In my opinions, Inspiration comes from influence and experience, so i will own up that many stories and inspired mine....but was this a genuine idea or did i inadvertently steel it from a previously watched tv show?

It wasn't exact but it was too close to deny the similarities. And ideas get recycled... because those ideas were once influences... but at what point do you question that this could be plagiarism (though very much inadvertently) vs a genuinely inspired idea without any direct link to someone elses work?

Anyone ever come across this?? It has been years since i saw this show but it freaked me out that my story may not be as original as i thought...

Any comments? Lessons learned from similar experiences?

Thanks,

Inkspout:)
