Same here for me, Adrie, re: the tiny font in the IM window. I can't read it. I've had to tell friends who IM me, if I don't reply it's 'cos I can't read the font. In Writing ML terms, the print size is 1, if not smaller. I haven't noticed the freezing though - I open them, they go to another window and I carry on. I'm on the mini iPad.
