Youtube Chat
Hi there The ScaryMaster

I know this is likely not something that you will be implemented due to the low number of users who will use it, but I figured it was worth a shot.

WdC Live events use Youtube Live Events (and are managed by Google Hangouts). The WdC Embed code is perfect for putting these streams onto WdC. However, Youtube Live events also have a chat stream on the side which we cannot embed on WdC.

However, these chat streams actually have their own URL and can technically be embedded on a website using the same set up as embedding a video. I don't know much about the topic, but I know the chat can be put into an iFrame and I think that is how videos are embedded. The URL for a youtube video chat would be like this:

https://www.youtube.com/live_chat?v=jNdAD4DE8og&embed_domain=www.writing.com

The video ID is what goes after the v=

My thinking (and it may be naive) is that it is technically possible for you to allow live YT chats to be embedded in the same way the YT videos can be.

This page is what gave me the idea http://www.peggyktc.com/2016/05/embed-livestream-and-chat.html and there is more info at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2524549

Is this a thing you could possibly look into? It would be great for interactivity during the Quill Awards which will be streamed live and any future WdC Live events I (or other members) run. In all cases the preference is to keep members on WdC to interact with the shows rather than having them leave the site.

EDIT:

I had a little play around and I think the src=" bit that is currently used in the iframe would just need to be the chat URL rather than the video URL for it to work. At least it works when I tried changing the src in the inspector on Chrome.

Thanks,
Matt
