A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
I graduated from high school recently and I am working my first job full time. I'm not currently enrolled in college, but I would like to start taking classes in a few months or up to a year from now. Writing has been a hobby of mine for years but I'm not always consistent. At one point, I even gave up on writing. I've mostly focused on poetry but lately I've been practicing writing about daily life. I'd like to do short stories soon but I do not think I am that type of writer. Even though I loved it as a child, I cannot imagine writing pure fiction. I enjoy taking things from the real world and putting my own abstract view on them. I want people to see, feel, and understand things as I do. That is the purpose for my writing when I keep an audience in mind. Other times, I just wish to express myself and my thoughts. I love reading as well. Yesterday, I purchased The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I haven't read much of it yet but I like the author's style and hope to achieve one like it. His words are simple but they still have a way about them in their direct nature that captivates you nonetheless. I appreciate works like that. It is one reason why I have taken a step away from poetry. I'd like to explore the world of literature from another side that doesn't dance around with its flowery words. It's a new type of beauty that I'd like to get to know better. I hope that I can meet interesting people on here and read fantastic pieces. I'm not sure what else to say! -Rory |
