All stories have a sub-genre. Even if you are sure that the one you're writing is pretty much a romance, that doesn't mean it can't be written in a horror fashion (or vice versa). If you have a style, you should go with your style. Don't try to change what works for you if it works unless you know it's just going to lose you money if you don't.

I may not be published or even trying to publish, but I understand that feeling. You want to write one thing and it morphs into something else. You just have to accept that you write in a horror fashion just like I seem to like to beat the hell out of all my main characters and make them lose. I never let them win. I try, but I seem to always want to bring hardship. I'm weird, I know.
