A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
My protag, Hedy, is a really willful character. Like... she's started bossing me around, telling me that details I've written are wrong. And not just about her, either; other characters get corrections, too. She keeps telling me Bobbie is black, which is definitely not something I wanted. I wanted her to basically be a mirror of Hedy, but without Hedy's knack (latent ability to manipulate ley lines) and, more importantly, Hedy's intelligence. Like, other than that (and that Hedy is much younger... like, almost thirty years), they're meant to match. But Hedy is SO INSISTENT that Bobbie is black, I'm starting to picture the character as, like, Viola Davis. Not glamorous Viola Davis, downtrodden Viola Davis. My protagonist is taking over my brain. Did I ever mention she wanted to be named Scheherazade for a while? It took giving her the nickname Hedy -- she likes the idea of Hedy Lamarr even though she is NOT named after her in book -- to get her to settle for Henrietta as a first name. Her best friend describes her as eating determined people for breakfast. This might be a difficult process. -Quaddy Check this Out!
