A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
Day 3, halfway to the time I usually give up and play video games. Writing is hard. Fighting Super Mutants is easy, even on Expert mode. That said, I don't have much to rant about concerning today's exercise. It's not really built for science fiction, though. Thinks like "culture," "religion," and even "family" require way more explanation. Not to mention "Where is your character from?" Well, she's from the planet Pustule, which is a paradise planet named as it is because they don't want more people showing up from, say, Shangri-La, which is a festering hellhole of high gravity, short days, vulcanism and clever, mobile, armored, tentacled plants. Specifically, on Pustule, there's a prawn-shaped continent called Allegory, and my MC is from a small town named Two Songs located on the concave side of the prawn. And then I have to get into the character of the town, make up a religion, figure out what they do all day, why they have slaves instead of robots... Most of you can just put "Seattle" and be done with it. But such is the plight of science fiction and fantasy authors, always and forever, amen. I hope you appreciate what we do for you. But hey, at least I've cracked the "name" thing. |
