A message forum discussing the craft of writing. I often repost articles for discussion. |
mystical pablum. You are not a butter knife. You are capable of many different activities. Just as there is no such thing as a Soul Mate, there is no such thing as a Soulless job. It is merely what you choose to put into it and get out of it. Your mindset. Whether you are good at one more than the other, obviously affects your mindset. But i have shovelled manure, washed dishes, cut down trees, worked helpdesk, written whitepapers, invented technologies, written specifications, developed software, and gotten paid for all of it and each job had something to appreciate, something complain about, and something to just get done. It's not even true that writing is labor intensive for all writers. I can pour out 900 words an hour as easily as pouring cereal into a bowl. I wouldn't argue that is a writer sees it as labor intensive, it must not be the right job for them. Everybody varies and since it does, it's not a usable metric. Being a writer does not, and probably should not be defined as a super spirit-quest activity that only those blessed with the right sacred soul and destiny are worthy of the title. |
