Stephen King is a hardcore pantser. He seems to have done okay for himself. I say, do what feels right for you. Just be prepared to do more revisions.
Actually... in a way, I suppose you could say pantsing IS outlining. You know when you pants, you are not creating a final draft. I am a pantser too. Often my first drafts are skeletal. I spend a great deal of time fleshing them out. How is that different from writing a detailed outline? I simply rearrange the order of planning the plot and writing the story. I still do that plot elements thing that Sir V. was talking about above, only I do it much later.
I say pantsers are more outliners than self-professed sole outliners are. Just sayin'. :D
