Re: Re: Childhood: The Foundation of Style
I have written short stories & other prose, but there is something about rhythm & rhyme, that I find to be very therapeutic. I write essays occasionally, but I get bogged down in the marsh of words, that have no rhythm nor rhyme. I often wonder how much of my prose sounds like the books of therapeutic encouragement, that I've read as I'm writing my own memoirs, but with poetry I know the thoughts are unique to me because no one else can write poetry in the exact same way I can.

You may find this humorous, but my brain has difficulty accepting free verse as being poetry. Free verse has no rhythm nor rhyme. Therefore, free verse always appears in my mind to be only prose as calligraphy. I have learned how to review free verse as being poetry, but it still feels very unnatural to my mind.

I am in the process of writing a piece of prose about depression for the Mysteries of the Mind Contest, but I have had to stop writing as of last night and walk away from it to clear my head. I have experienced depression in my life, due to being Asperger's Syndrome and AD/HD. In short, life can be overwhelming for people like me in the multiplicity of details. The world seems to be tailored to the lay-out of forests, whereas it often takes a lifetime just to move one tree for people like me. (As you can see, it is often difficult for me to write prose without the inclusion of accidental rhyme.)

Thank you for the encouraging words about my poem! :D

As to imagery I don't often think of eliciting the senses in my poetry on purpose, since rhythm and rhyme have their own unique imagery for me. I think I am one of those people, who have cross-overs in the senses. This means that numbers often have color. I can taste or smell colors.

Certain tastes seem to elicit my favorite time of year, Christmas. Twinings Orange & Cinnamon Spice tea is a cup of Christmas for me. Earl Grey gives me a moment of stalwart peace. (The aroma of Bergamot is heavenly.)

Music creates moments of peace for me. None more so than instrumental Christmas music...to which I am listening as I write, right now and often as I create my literature.

Thanks for reminding me, that not all readers experience imagery as they read. I must focus on the intentional increase of imagery words for others. I think you can see by my response, that I can write well in prose, especially as it involves expressing myself and my own view of the world.

Again, thank you for your encouragement. I will endeavor to continue to improve my writing in various styles. :)
