Political literature is an old and varied art. I believe there are some groups and contests around the site that promote non-fiction writing and opinionated fiction. ("The 4 Controversies Contest" Open in new Window., "Chatterbox Group" Open in new Window., and "Invalid Item" Open in new Window. come to mind, among others.) You might want to check them out.
